Last night CityRoom was on the fabulous Avenue Montaigne in Paris for the Vogue Fashion Celebration where all the luxury boutiques open their doors—and their champagne bottles—to welcome the privileged classes inside to mingle, drink complimentary open-bar champagne, listen to music, and admire clothes that cost a ton of money. The purpose of the event is to keep luxury fashionistas acquainted with this avenue, that is supposedly the 5th most expensive street for real estate in the world.
Chanel won the award for the most creative hors-d’oeuvres: macarons (the famous French cookie with cream hiding inside meringue, resembling little hamburgers), came in flavors like the usual chocolate and lemon, and then the not so usual guacamole and tuna fish. A salted cucumber juice and sweet fresh kiwi juice were unusual surprises.
Valentino one the award for the best ambiance, with a pretty electro Djette playing Ministry of Sound, and skinny sky-scraper models parading in their autumn wardrobes (hippie-chic is again à la mode, with autumn colors—orange, yellow, brown—and beads, modish wigs, and 20s-style hats).
Paul and Joe had a great jazz band, Dior and Louis Vuitton had long lines to get inside, but the interiors were disappointing. By ten o’clock at night, the street was packed, while the ultra-connected headed in to a private party at the Hôtel Plaza Athénée; and the less-connected waited in line to get inside to shops to find what last remaining flute of champagne might remain on the silver serving trays. By eleven o’clock, rain came falling on the city to end the fête.
